Product Development Engineer

About the Role

Influit Energy is seeking a hands-on product development engineer to support the hardware team objectives by applying technical engineering expertise to impact ruggedization of physical products. This group member has an expert ability to analyze product feedback, carry out new engineering solutions, build, and release product feature updates to the hardware team. A successful product dev. engineer has a strong methodology for merging engineering with manufacturing processes and tying in suppliers through the lens of pivoting lab sized fabrication to industrial manufacturing scale.

Requirements

Responsibilities include:


  • Carry out product development through research, design and implementation of mechanical systems/processes using engineering principles

  • Develop robust DFM updates of existing prototype product and manufacturing procedures through 3D models, drawings, diagrams, and BOM

  • Hands on approach to product development with readiness to execute in-house and outsourced manufacturing techniques to fabricate and assemble products

  • Perform root cause analysis/ failure mode effect analysis for design revisions to engineer a solution

  • Coordinate with the hardware team to implement changes, perform product validation, analyze test data, summarize findings, and effectively communicate to the rest of the team

  • Actively communicate specific work requirements or needs to internal functions, such as purchasing and manufacturing to ensure expectations are understood as defined by engineering specifications


Education:

Completed undergraduate or graduate degree in mechanical engineering.


Skills:

  • 5+ years in a Mechanical Engineering role or experience in a related field

  • Proven proficiency in 3D CAD using Solidworks (or similar)

  • Experience with physical product prototyping and fabrication equipment

  • Aptitude for hardware engineering suitable for industrial manufacturing process

  • Ability to work independently with little supervision and track multiple processes.


We’d love to see:


  • Experience with liquid sealed products or design of system components withstanding high pressure conditions

  • Ability to define/refine tolerance stacks and familiarity with ASME Y14.5

  • Past participation in new product introduction or clean sheet engineering

  • Prior work examples or portfolio demonstrating relevant work knowledge
